Judicial Structure and Administration Task Force
The Judicial Structure and Administration Task Force in charged to examine options and opportunities for the judicial system to more efficiently utilize resources while preserving the core legal values of accountability, access, fairness and efficiency. The Task Force started its work in January 2007 and will complete its tasks by summer 2008. The Public Policy Center is coordinating the effort, working with the Nebraska State Bar Association which received the request from the State’s Judicial Resources Commission and the Nebraska Supreme Court to convene the Task Force.
The Task Force has been divided into four subcommittees that will examine: 1) the jurisdiction of the courts, 2) the boundaries of the state’s judicial districts, 3) the feasibility and utility of court consolidation, and 4) technological upgrades required pursuant to recommended court reforms. Task Force members include Supreme Court Justices, legislators and legislative staff, trial court judges, and attorneys representing all areas of the state.
