Nebraska Integrated Information and Referral Project

The Nebraska Integrated Information and Referral (I&R) database project is the outcome of a technical project funded in part by the U.S. Department of Commerce Technologies Opportunities Program – National Telecommunication and Information Administration.

In 2003, the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, in collaboration with many state and national partners, received a three-year grant to develop the technology and processes to pilot a statewide, integrated information and referral database. The aim was to populate an integrated database with data from organizations using a variety of software products. The work done by the group resulted in the February 11, 2005 launch of www.ne211.org, an online resource for locating human service information in Nebraska.

State partners:

  • Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department
  • Nebraska Respite Network (Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services)
  • Panhandle Partnership for Health and Human Services
  • United Way of the Midlands (host of the 2-1-1 Call/Resource Center)

National partners:

  • Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS)
  • AIRS XML Data Standards Workgroup
  • Information and Referral software vendors
  • Members of the Information and Referral community

Upon conclusion of the Department of Commerce grant, the Public Policy Center received funds from three Lincoln-based foundations to improve the NE211 website, revise the NE211 database schema, and complete a Web-based data integration tool. The Public Policy Center contracted with the Laboratory for Advanced Research Computing, UNL Department of Computer Science and Engineering, for the technical needs of this phase of the project.

Lt. Governor the First to Visit Nebraska 2-1-1 Statewide Website

Nebraska 2-1-1 Statewide Website Launch

Local Human Service Information Just a Click Away at www.ne211.org.

At 10:00 a.m. on February 11, 2005 in the Warner Room of the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln, Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy logged on as the website's first visitor.

The Nebraska 2-1-1 website offers visitors several ways to search for the information they need, including searches by location and need. It is a handy resource for individuals who seek help for themselves, while offering timely assistance to someone who's trying to help a friend or relative who lives in another Nebraska community. Government and social service providers will also find the website helpful through the use of a special search function that matches their specialized industry service codes.
