Information and Referral Data Interoperability: Planning for Disasters
The Coordinated Assistance Network (CAN) helps communities prepare for and respond to disasters. The ability to exchange up-to-date information about resources and clients is central to effective response. The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Computer Science and Engineering analyzed data exports from the CAN system and 211 Helplink (San Francisco) because they were having difficulty exchanging resource information. Through this project, the PPC and Computer Science and Engineering determined the failure points, and made recommendations for this and future data exchanges.
