Nebraska Integrated Information and Referral Project

This project developed the technological link between propriety software and existing xml standards to enable resource information sharing (locally and nationally). Tools created by this project enable linking disparate resource databases using the market-leading proprietary software. The project identified and resolved semantic conflicts by developing a codified data format structure, and data conflicts by creating data conversion rules and routines. The solutions created were used in a Nebraska statewide pilot (ne211.org, debuted on February 11, 2005) that leveraged information assets already present in disparate state and local databases maintained by public and private organizations. The pilot will provide evaluative and best practices results regarding improved information and referral access: 1) through a consumer-friendly Internet site; 2) by dialing 2-1-1 in certain parts of the state, and 3) through helping organizations.
