Targeted Violence Research Project

Dr. Mario Scalora is partnering with the United States Marshals Service’s Judicial Security Division (JSD) to examine USMS threat cases, in order to empirically and statistically understand the characteristics and behaviors that relate to targeted violence toward federal judicial protectees. The USMS conducts protective intelligence investigations on subjects who have made threatening, inappropriate, or concerning communications toward their protectees. This research project examines the behaviors and characteristics that are related to escalation, the relationship between pre-incident communications or behaviors and negative outcomes, as well as methods for identifying risk factors for potential violence.
