Thomas C. Sorensen Seminar: Premiere Screening of Renewable Energy and Nebraska’s Future, and Discussion with Congressman Jeff Fortenberry

Congressman Jeff FortenberryThe University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications presented the premiere screening of “Renewable Energy and Nebraska’s Future” on Monday, April 20, at the Mary Riepma Ross Theater. “Renewable Energy and Nebraska’s Future” is a one-hour documentary that explores the opportunities and challenges of expanding renewable energy resources in Nebraska. The documentary covers the current status and future potential for wind, solar, biofuels, and nuclear energy, and features interviews with Governor Dave Heineman, Senators Hagel and Nelson, Congressmen Fortenberry, Smith, and Terry, and others. The program identifies the critical issues facing the state and investigates the most appropriate renewable energy policies that Nebraska should pursue to expand renewable energy options. The documentary was produced by students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Prior to the screening of “Renewable Energy and Nebraska’s Future," students discussed the making of the documentary. The screening was followed by a discussion and question and answer session with Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (pictured) about renewable energy in Nebraska.

The event was part of the Thomas C. Sorensen Policy Seminar Series and the national 2009 Focus The Nation series of activities on energy and climate change.
