Women's History Month: Lisa Bowers

Staff Spotlight:

In honor of Women's History Month, we want to lift up the voices and victories of women. We asked PPC researchers and staff to share their advice for young women today. During the month of March, we will be sharing their replies. Today, we spoke with Research Specialist Lisa Bowers, whose interests include social economics, community development and leadership, project management, and research design.

Q&A with Lisa Bowers

  • What advice do you have for young women today?
Take time to get to know yourself as an individual. Create a daily practice of self-love, goal-setting, and develop a network of support. Treat yourself as well as you would treat a best friend.

  • What is one way your life/work has been impacted by women?
By learning about women’s history, past oppression and inequalities, I’m more mindful of the strengths and character I encounter in female leaders. Examples set by other women inspire me to break through limiting constructs and to take actions that perpetuate equal rights.

  • Can you think of a specific project you have worked on that directly impacts women?
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a Women’s Health Research Collaborative. This group proposes survey questions related to women’s health in an effort to improve women’s health outcomes, access to care, and promote health education.
