Women's History Month: Megan Allen

Staff Spotlight:

In honor of Women's History Month, we want to lift up the voices and victories of women. We asked PPC researchers and staff to share their advice for young women today. During the month of March, we will be sharing their replies. Today, we spoke with Research Specialist Megan Allen, whose interests include behavioral health topics, such as suicide prevention and mental health policy.

Q&A with Megan Allen

  • What is one way your life/work has been impacted by women?
So many women who have come before me have fought to pave the way for the women of today. I wouldn’t have the opportunities I have today without them. I was also raised by a strong woman and I’m surrounded by so many more who inspire me every day!

  • What advice do you have for young women today? Always know that you are important and loved. Never lessen or de-value yourself for anyone or anything.

  • Can you think of a specific project you have worked on that directly impacts women?
All of the projects I work on impact women. The Nebraska Youth Suicide Prevention Project is particularly important because there are several mental health disparities that exist for women and we must continue to raise awareness and fight to eliminate these disparities. It is crucial that we support women and women’s mental health. Learn more about women's mental health at womenshealth.gov/mental-health.
