Empirically-Supported Treatments for ADHD in Children: Helping Parents, Kids, and Teachers Do Their Best

This presentation will review best practices and professional practice guidelines for the screening, diagnosis, and non-pharmacological treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in childhood and adolescence. The first block of the presentation will be devoted to screening and diagnosis and will cover variations in practices by clinical setting, age, gender, and presentation. Next, an overview of treatment best practices will be provided separately for the childhood and adolescent contexts. Question and answer time will be allotted at the end.

Audience: psychologists, behavioral health and licensed mental health professionals
Instructional Level: Intermediate

This training is approved for 2.75 continuing education (CE) credits for psychologists* and Nebraska LMHP/LIMHP. Credits will be awarded to participants who attend the entire training.

*Continuing education for psychologists may be used by other licensed behavioral health professionals. Please check with your licensing board. Continuing education credit is granted on a one credit per one instructional hour basis.

  1. Identify key components of evidence-based assessment of ADHD in children and adolescents.
  2. Describe the extant empirically-supported treatments for children with ADHD from preschool through late elementary.
  3. Explain the common elements of evidence-based non-pharmacological approaches for adolescents with ADHD.
