We're Hiring Undergraduate Students

Many of the PPC's projects include graduate research assistantships or undergraduate research opportunities. We are currently hiring for an Undergraduate Research Assistant and an Undergraduate Copy Editor position. Undergraduates assist with research and other project activities. Past students have gone on to work in industries such as social science research, law, federal government services, threat assessment, clinical psychology, public policy, international development, economics, and nonprofit management.

Undergraduate Copy Editor - Apply by June 2, 2025

The Public Policy Center is a university-wide, multidisciplinary research, and outreach unit committed to addressing complex issues by linking academic research, stakeholder perspectives, and practical experience through innovative and creative solutions. Our mission is to link policy with research, process, and practice by working with researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to actively inform public policy.

The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center (NUPPC) provides a unique opportunity for policy makers and researchers to work together to address the challenges of local, state, and federal policy. We work with decision makers to address complex issues through the use of academic research, stakeholder opinions, and practical experience. Center staff collaborate with other university researchers, regularly contribute to scholarly knowledge, and our work results in action.

The NUPPC seeks a student copy editor to assist with proofreading academic reports and press releases. The editor will also help proofread promotional material, social media posts, and web content. A minimum commitment of 15 hours per week in office starting as soon as possible is ideal. Appointment is for one semester but can be extended if desired.

A successful candidate in this role will be detail-oriented, a strong communicator, eager to learn, good at managing deadlines, and will have a sense of professionalism. This student should be able to work with minimal supervision on various tasks, ask good questions, and produce high quality work.

Preferred skills include computer competency with a strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and APA 7th Edition Style Manual. Experience of interest includes previous copy editor coursework or professional experience.

Undergraduate Research Assistant - Apply by June 15, 2025

We work with decision-makers to address complex issues through academic research, stakeholder opinions, and practical experience. Center staff collaborate with other university researchers, regularly contribute to scholarly knowledge, and our work results in action.

The Public Policy Center provides a setting for students interested in public policy and research. Students are given tasks that range from basic office functions to producing work included in final reports and require a high level of responsibility and skill. Among our staff are both graduate and undergraduate students. They come to us from various departments such as psychology, political science, economics, sociology, international studies, and pre-law.

The NUPPC is looking for an undergraduate student to assist with administrative and project-specific work. We want someone who can commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week starting in August. Appointment is for one semester, but can be extended if desired.

A successful candidate in this role will be detail-oriented, possess strong communication skills, eager to learn, good at managing deadlines, and have a sense of professionalism. This student should be able to work with minimal supervision on various tasks, ask good questions, and produce high-quality work. Tasks will include but are not limited to: filing, copying, scanning, data entry, low-level financial reconciling, updating Facebook and Twitter pages, taking meeting minutes, answering multi-line phones, greeting guests, setting up conference rooms, literature reviews, and other project-specific requests as needed.

Preferred skills include computer competency with a strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Skills of interest (not required) would consist of statistical software like SPSS or SAS, basic social media, and EndNote.
