The Community Crops Family Service Lincoln is a non-profit organization that provides education, advocacy and experiences to grow local food. The Public Policy Center is helping to evaluate their efforts. Community Crops is offering FREE Urban Grower Classes this summer. Classes meet in-person and include the following offerings:
Water Conservation in the Garden
July 18th, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lake St. Microfarm:

Learn about best water resource management practices in your garden or small scale farm. This skill share style class will highlight irrigation practices and mulching systems that also double as good soil health and pest management strategies! Growing Fruits, Nuts, and Berries in Nebraska
July 22nd, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Southern Heights Food Forest:
5750 S. 40th Street, Lincoln, NE.
This class will explore how to grow your own fruit, nuts, and berries in a sustainable way. We’ll cover the basics of establishing and tending agroforestry spaces through an ecological lens with expert land steward, Molly Phemister of the Southern Heights Food Forest. This class will include a tour of the Southern Heights Food Forest so that participants can see agroforestry in action.

Make Your Own Compost
August 12th, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., at the Gere Library Community Garden:

Learn how to build and maintain your own compost pile with composting experts from the Nebraska Extension Master Gardener program! We will build a new compost pile at this class and learn how to care for it. Basic composting science and troubleshooting of commonly seen issues will be discussed.
