Nebraska Drought Center Collaborating with Other Agencies to Foster Drought Resilience

A cooperation agreement between University of Nebraska Public Policy Center faculty fellow Mark Svoboda at the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC), Michael Boehm, vice chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Ibrahim Thiaw, executive secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, aims to foster drought resilience and adaptation on a global scale. Svoboda, director of the Nebraska-based drought center, is tasked with "recommending approaches to integrated drought risk management focused on drought-smart, land-based solutions." The new agreement aims to foster better collaboration between the United Nations team, and local and national institutions, to develop and share best practices on drought resilience and adaptation. "We look forward to this next stage, building on the NDMC’s long track record with international drought planning,” Svoboda said.
