In 2014, leaders of Lincoln’s largest public and private charitable organizations commissioned the Lincoln Vital Signs report to help inform decisions, spark connections, and spur collaboration. Since then, Lincoln Vital Signs reports (2014, 2015, the 2016 Behavioral Health Supplement, 2017, and 2019; all available at lincolnvitalsigns.org) authored by the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, have been used in a variety of ways: by funders to target resources, agencies for program development, faith community for services planning, business community for recruitment, neighborhood organizations for advocacy and involvement, performing arts as an inspiration for a new musical, and in many other ways. These positive responses to Lincoln Vital Signs led to the creation of Prosper Lincoln (prosperlincoln.org); thousands of people participated in prioritizing Lincoln’s focus on Early Childhood, Employment Skills, and Innovation. Biennial updates of the Lincoln Vital Signs are planned so that residents can continue looking at the trends and determine how to best use the information provided.
