This presentation will discuss the management of substance use disorders (SUDs). The first half of the presentation will focus on the legal considerations regarding relevant rules and regulations, including the federal Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), Drug Addiction Treatment Act (DATA), and the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) Act requirements and changes resulting from the 2022 Omnibus Bill. Research on access issues for a variety of populations will be presented to illustrate the impact of the 1970 Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act. Nebraska laws on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and life-saving drugs and emerging therapies will also be discussed from a legal perspective. The second half of the training will focus on currently available evidence-based pharmacologic treatment options.
