Student Assistants:

Many of the PPC's projects include graduate research assistantships or undergraduate research opportunities. Graduate students and undergraduates assist with research and other project activities. Graduate students often work with the faculty and project directors to present and publish the research. Past students have gone on to work in industries such as social science research, law, federal government services, threat assessment, clinical psychology, public policy, international development, economics, and nonprofit management. We are always looking for talented and motivated students to work with our collaborative team of researchers, so contact the office if you would like to work with us.

 

 

Research Specialist I or II - Apply by October 11, 2023

The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center (PPC) is seeking a Research Specialist I or II to assist with current and future funded projects. The Research Specialist position is open to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year of experience researching and presenting policy reports. Knowledge of and experience with community and statewide public policy issues. Outstanding verbal, interpersonal, planning, and writing skills required; the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with national, state, and local policymakers and stakeholders; the ability to multitask and perform assigned tasked quickly and accurately.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree and/or equivalent experience/education; quantitative experience in the social sciences is preferred. Experience cleaning, organizing, and managing data is preferred. Program evaluation experience is preferred. Experience working with policy makers and other stakeholders, problem solving and decision making, working independently with minimal supervision, keeping supervisor and internal team members informed, and providing excellent customer relations; the ability to translate academic research to accessible quality policy reports; the ability to quickly master a range of content areas; excellent written communication and analytic skills; the ability to coordinate a wide variety of projects; the ability and flexibility to perform other tasks as assigned. Knowledge of behavioral health, public participation processes, and/or social sciences applied research is also preferred.

Grants Coordinator - Apply by October 23, 2023

The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center (PPC) is seeking a Grants Coordinator to assist with current and future funded projects. The Coordinator will join a diverse research interdisciplinary team within the PPC that engages in a variety of research and consultation activities involving private and public sector partners.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, strong interpersonal skills, excellent client service, and the ability to be a team player. The ability to balance and complete multiple priority tasks simultaneously is essential. Computer skills including keyboarding, MS Word, MS Excel, and browsers; as well as excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are required. Strong problem solving, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills are also required.

One year of experience in grant proposal review and submission, contract development, or project budget management is preferred. Experience working at a university is preferred. Knowledge of, and some experience with NuRamp, Uniform Guidance, Grants.gov, Research.gov, eRA Commons, JustGrants, and/or ScIEncv is preferred but not required.

Operations Manager - Apply by October 27, 2023

The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center (PPC) is seeking an Operations Manager to manage Center support operations. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, marketing, human resources or equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in business operations in any combination of accounting, grants/contracts, human resource, financial, or business/information management is required. Experience in managing the operations of a University-based research Center that is dependent upon external funding is also required as well as supervisory and/or team management experience. The candidate must have working knowledge of business practices including grants & contracts, accounting, budgeting, personnel & payroll as well as skills and experience with Microsoft Office and database management skills. Supervisory and team management skills related to grants & contracts management, human resources, finances, and communications is required as is working knowledge of University of Nebraska-Lincoln business practices and procedures. Excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and the ability to lead, multi-task, and work independently is required. The ideal candidate will have experience managing the operations of a University-based research Center that is dependent upon external funding as well as knowledge of OMB Circulars A-21 and A-133.

A master’s degree in business, accounting, marketing, human resources or equivalent advanced degree or license is preferred. Eight (8) years of experience in business operations in any combination of accounting, grants/contracts, human resource, financial, or business/information management is also preferred. Knowledge of fund accounting is preferred but not essential.
